Images? Images are triggers Images are triggered emotion Images are our world, unspoken
Here we go, its been a long time in coming, my pictures have finally reached the internet. Back in the day, 27 years ago, when I bought my first film SLR, a very old Russian Zenith, weighing in at a couple of kilos, I started photography. Then, with the lack of affordable photo printers (in those days, wax printing was the way to go!), I started taking photo's of my computer screen. Why the hell would I do that? :) Well, computer 'art' was starting to become possible to the humble x86 owner, but with the processing speeds, it took days for the PC to render an image (only 256 colours too!) and printing it was way past my student pay grade at the time. So, using a Zenith, a log book to record my camera settings (no meta data then), a darkroom and the best monitor I could afford, I took pictures of my screen. These photo's I had developed and put in frames. Even had an exhibition or two at the time. A little extra income to augment my student pay check. One brave father of my girlfriend at the time, ordered 50 (!) prints and gave them to his customers as Christmas presents. He was one of the first people to show belief in what I was doing. We all need that, someone to help us get past our inner insecurities and feed us to grow.
Now, I am the happy owner of a DSLR, a few lenses and am very luckily live in Australia near the some amazing beaches. Being on the east coast means sunrises are spectacular.
As I posted on the home page, I started to get out of the house very early to find that small temporal slice of peace, that place where we can all re-ground with nature (re-ground? Is that even a word? It is now :)).
So back full circle. Time to do this all again. Different technology, different mediums, different everything, but the same boy looking out at the world.
So, big breath out. Its live. Welcome to my 5-AM. Hope you find some peace here too.
